Jenna Weberman

Jenna Weberman is a junior at the University of Michigan majoring in Organizational Development and minoring in Entrepreneurship. On campus, she is a fellow for OptiMize, a social innovation entrepreneurial challenge where students compete to receive funding for ventures. She is also a JNet fellow (Jewish Network outreach and engagement through Hillel), a yoga instructor, a Sinai Scholars Fellow, and the Philanthropy Chair for her Greek chapter. Last summer was her first spent away from her lifelong camp, Tamarack. She went there since age eight and worked there three years after with various age groups and then as a tripper, taking out the camping trips. In the future, Jenns hopes to play a role in bringing together the Jewish community through entrepreneurial aspirations. She is inspired by the sense of community she feels among other Jews regardless of their backgrounds.

Leah Sherin

Leah is from Wilmette, Illinois. She is a student at Brandeis University studying Sociology and Near Eastern Judaic Studies. On campus, Leah is involved in theater and a cappella as well as Delta Phi Epsilon, serving as President this past year. Last summer, Leah was S’ganit (assistant unit head) of the arts unit at URJ OSRUI. In the past, she has also been a songleader at OSRUI. Leah loves Jewish music, songleading, and leading services at camp and with the Reconstructionist organization at Brandeis.

Liora Bernstein

Liora Bernstein is originally from Boynton Beach, FL, but is currently living in Washington D.C. where she is studying Communications and Judaic Studies at the George Washington University. She is very active in GW Hillel. Last year she co-founded Challah Chomies, a challah-making club aiming to raise money for a local nonprofit (similar to Challah for Hunger) and she currently serves as Shabbat Chair for Hillel's Jewish Student Association. For the past two years Liora was a member of the GW First Ladies Dance Team. She is also interning at the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism on the Leadership Development team. Last summer Liora spent her 8th summer at URJ Eisner Camp, working with the oldest campers. What inspires Liora most about Judaism is the ability to find community wherever you go, which is why she loves being able to create different Shabbat experiences for GW students every week. In the future, she hopes to work for a Jewish non-profit organization, preferably working with teens in leadership development or Jewish Education.

Madeline Frischer

Mady is originally from the suburbs of Chicago, where she spent a lot of time in USY and spent most of her summers at URJ OSRUI. Mady participated in NFTY-EIE. Mady is now a junior at American University in Washington D.C. where she is majoring in International Studies and minoring in Israel Studies. She is a proud member of Phi Sigma Sigma social sorority; a former American University Engagement Intern at Hillel; and a satire/campus life staff writer for The Rival at AU (student media). Last year Mady performed with the AU Players in their production of Hair the Musical and served on the general board of the Jewish Student Association. Off campus, Mady has interned in the office of Outreach and Public Policy at the Embassy of Israel and this semester in the Washington Regional Office of the American Jewish Committee. This past summer Mady participated in the Onward Israel Government and Politics program, interning in Jerusalem with IMPACT-se researching school textbooks around the world to determine if they maintain global standards of cultural tolerance. Judaism inspires Mady because of the connected memory and the communal experience. After participating on a JDC trip to Jewish Hungary and Romania, she has been inspired to work with global Jewish communities and combat international anti-semitism.

Marilyn Gladstein

Marilyn grew up at Sephardic Adventure Camp in Seattle, attending for many years as a camper and working the past four summers on staff, most recently as Head Counselor. She was active in NCSY since childhood, now President of Seattle NCSY. Marilyn is now an Advertising and Marketing major at FIT in New York. She is on the Student Board of Chabad at FIT, serving as the Chesed Chair.

Max Silverstone

Max was born and raised in New York City, and is currently at Brandeis University, pursuing a double major in Music and NEJS (Near Eastern and Judaic Studies).  On campus, he runs the Conservative minyan, and is the music director of Manginah: Brandeis’ Premier Coed Jewish A Cappella group.  Growing up, Max attended Camp Ramah in the Berkshires for eight summers as a chanich (camper), and has more recently worked there on tzevet musika (music staff).  In high school, Max spent his time after school at his shul, Park Avenue Synagogue, where he was a founding member of the Hebrew High School Rock Band, A Cappella group, and Teachers’ Assistant Program, and director of the student-led food pantry his senior year.  Max loves to sing, both sacred and secular, and in his free time, you’ll find him playing guitar, and jamming with his brother.  Max hopes to one day become a cantor, using music to inspire people to find a deeper spiritual meaning in their Judaism.

Meital Gewirtz

Meital is studying Molecular and Developmental Biology at Yale. Passionate about social justice advocacy, she is the Social Justice Chair at Hillel and Student Organizer for the Tzedek Fellowship. She is also active in Yale Friends of Israel and has participated in the David Project. In addition to her Jewish involvement, Meital also works as a chemistry tutor and she writes for the Yale Scientific Magazine. Meital attended Camp Ramah in Wisconsin and worked there for two summers.

Micah Cowan

Micah Cowan is from Rockville, MD. He is majoring in Linguistics at Columbia University and Bible at the Jewish Theological Seminary. He previously served as a Gabbai of the Conservative minyan on campus and currently serves as the Artistic Director of Shalhevet (Columbia/Barnard’s Israeli dance troupe.) Micah spent this past summer on staff for USY’s Poland Seminar/Israel Pilgrimage. He has always been active in USY, most recently in the position of International Religion and Education Vice President. Micah is dedicated to pursuing a career in Jewish Communal Service, though still unsure in what capacity. He has always loved that Judaism is not a religion of the individual- so many features of Jewish life and observance require the presence of others and being a part of a greater Jewish community.

Miriam Lichtenberg

Miriam was born and raised in Teaneck, New Jersey, though ventured to New York City to attend SAR High School where her interest in Jewish Studies blossomed. Before attending Barnard, she spent a year abroad immersed in Jewish texts at Midreshet Ein Hanatiz in Israel. She currently studies History with a minor in Philosophy and is very involved in the Columbia/Barnard Hillel, is an editor for a Columbia journal called The Current, and is a Barnard tour guide. She grew up attending camp Nesher, and currently spends her summers at camp Ramah in Northern California. Miriam hopes to take her love for Judaism and people to pursue a career that would combine the two, though she is not yet sure what that will look like.

Nathan Schachter

Nathan is a junior at the University of Connecticut studying Communication and on a fast-track MPA in Nonprofit Management. On campus, he is heavily involved at Hillel, sitting on the Student Board for two years. Nathan spent this past summer working in the Jewish Agency for Israel’s Shlichut Unit, developing new educational content and assisting in the training seminar for new Shlichim. Nathan began his career as a Jewish professional in high school, sitting on the Mandell JCC’s Board of Directors as the Teen Representative before continuing on to work at other various Jewish organizations in town. Nathan is passionate about giving back to the Jewish community for all he has gotten out of it, and hopes to one day continue bridging the gap between Diaspora Jewish communities and Israel through education and partnerships.
