Monday night was one of our favorites. We had spent the majority of the day discussing things that kept our minds spinning and after we were asked to leave the room for some time. When we came back, we entered what looked like a form of Heaven. We were welcomed by platters and platters of sushi; all different kinds for everyone's taste buds to be satisfied. Before we dug into the magical creation of sushi that was in front of us, we met the man behind the magic. Tomer Parets, our chef, worked at a Ramah camp for a while and then he opened his own restaurant. He was very passionate about giving opportunities to those who were in the "at-risk" areas and he wanted to make sure that they had a place to work and someone to look out for them.
Not only did he have an amazing story, but the sushi was UNREAL. It was like we kept eating, but there was still so much more to eat. He also made us soup, noodles, vegetables, and more. It was an amazing meal. It was also so nice to be able to sit with the other Nachshon Fellows and talk and get to know each other more. We have had a lot of time to talk to each other, but it was great to sit around and eat a meal all together. I really feel like everyone on this program is amazing with such a story about where they came from and where they want to be. It was great to have a chance and connect with more people before we all were to get separated once we arrived to Jerusalem. After we ate the great meal, we got the opportunity to learn how to make sushi on our own! Though we were not trusted to cut our own sushi with the large knife, it was really fun and a great learning experience for most of us! Overall, it was such a fun night that we still talk about today.
